Bio
Lakshmi Chennapragada (she/her) is a Ph.D. student in the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at San Diego State University/UC San Diego (began in Fall 2024). She completed her B.S. in Clinical Psychology at UC San Diego and subsequently earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her graduate research has focused on suicide prediction and prevention, with her master’s thesis examining the unique challenges and mental health concerns among Indian farmers, including the impact of interpersonal, structural, and cultural factors on suicidality and problematic drinking in their communities.
After earning her M.A., Lakshmi worked at the Bronx VA Medical Center as a research coordinator on various clinical trials aimed at developing, evaluating, and disseminating evidence-based group psychotherapy interventions for veterans at acute suicide risk and with chronic illnesses.
Lakshmi’s current research interests include exploring how structural and cultural factors influence suicidality and mental health disparities in minoritized youth populations. She is also interested in employing community-based research to culturally adapt and disseminate evidence-based interventions to increase access to care for underserved communities.
