Prospective Students

Training an incoming workforce is a major part of advancing mental health equity. We offer opportunities for students at all levels to learn about research focused on mental health equity. We look for students who are reliable, have good communication skills, and are eager to engage with scholarship.

Ph.D. Students

SDSU-UCSD Clinical Psychology Joint Doctoral Program

We anticipate accepting a new doctoral student in 2024-25.

Master's Students

We are accepting new Master’s students whose interests align with our research. We encourage students who have prior research experience to apply.

Undergraduate and Post-baccalaureate Students

We offer volunteer opportunities for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students who are interested in obtaining research experience in mental health disparities. To ensure we can provide you a well-rounded experience, we typically ask for an in-person commitment of 8-10 hours/week in our research lab. If you are interested in a potential opportunity, please e-mail Dr. Vargas with a copy of your CV / resume and unofficial transcripts.

From time to time, we have helped undergraduate students secure financial stipends (from external programs) to support their experience in our lab.
